The Low Pressure Area (LPA) has downgraded to a tropical depression, and Signal No. 1 has been issued for areas in northern Luzon.

 On Monday morning, the low-pressure area east of Aurora province intensified into a tropical depression, now named “Gener” by the local weather bureau. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in its 8 a.m. update, Gener was last observed 315 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora.

Gener is traveling at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour (kph) and has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph, with gusts reaching up to 55 kph. As a result, Pagasa has issued Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 1 in the following areas:

The eastern and central regions of Mainland Cagayan, including Piat, Santo Niño, Camalaniugan, Tuao, Lal-Lo, Enrile, Gonzaga, Alcala, Amulung, Santa Teresita, Baggao, Buguey, Solana, Rizal, Santa Ana, Tuguegarao City, Gattaran, Peñablanca, Iguig, Lasam, Aparri, Ballesteros, Allacapan, and Abulug

The eastern part of Nueva Vizcaya includes the municipalities of Alfonso Castaneda, Kasibu, Dupax del Norte, Quezon, Diadi, Bayombong, Ambaguio, Bagabag, Villaverde, Aritao, Bambang, Dupax del Sur, and Solano.

The eastern and southern regions of Apayao encompass Conner, Flora, Pudtol, Santa Marcela, Luna, and Kabugao.

In Kalinga, the focus is on the eastern and central areas of Mountain Province, which include Paracelis, Sadanga, Bontoc, Natonin, Sabangan, and Barlig.

For Ifugao, Aurora, and the eastern part of Nueva Ecija, the relevant locations are Carranglan, Pantabangan, Bongabon, Gabaldon, Laur, General Tinio, Rizal, General Mamerto Natividad, and Palayan City.

The northern part of Mainland Quezon, covering General Nakar, Infanta, and Real, also includes the Polillo Islands.

According to Pagasa’s report, Typhoon Gener is expected to make landfall in either Isabela or Aurora within the next 24 hours.

It is anticipated to leave the country's area of responsibility by Wednesday, September 18.
