According to the latest data from the Department of Health (DOH), dengue cases have risen nationwide.

In a statement released on Thursday, the agency reported 36,335 dengue cases between August 4 and 17, marking a 25 percent increase from the 29,021 cases recorded from July 21 to August 3.

The DOH also noted that all regions in the country, with the exception of Mimaropa, Bicol, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, experienced an increase in dengue cases from August 4 to August 17.

From the start of the year through September 6, the health agency reported a total of 208,965 dengue cases. This represents a 68 percent increase compared to the 124,157 cases reported during the same period last year.

The DOH also reported a total of 546 deaths, noting a reduced case fatality rate of 0.26 percent, down from 0.39 percent last year.

Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa stated, "We are seeing a persistent and seasonal increase in dengue cases. It is essential that we act promptly and work together to address this issue, which is exacerbated by the rainy season."

He also noted, "The decrease in the proportion of deaths may be due to improved health-seeking behaviors and better hospital management. Let us join forces to safeguard our families, friends, and communities from the risks of dengue."
