A 62-year-old boatman drowned, while 20 tourists were rescued after three boats capsized near Gak-ang Island on Thursday at noon. The deceased has been identified as Avenito Vistal, a resident of Inabanga town. According to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) – Western Bohol, the boats overturned due to adverse weather conditions.

The boats — RBCA Margie 2, RBCA Plaza 2, and RBCA Leah Mae — were en route from Balicasag Island for a diving and snorkeling tour.

However, as they were heading back to Panglao Island, the boats faced large waves and strong winds near Gak-ang Island, also known as Cat Island.

The majority of the passengers are Korean.

Personnel from the PCG-Substation in Panglao quickly launched a rescue operation and saved 20 passengers.
