The restaurant explosion in Tagbilaran City happened early morning of August 15, 2025, at around 2:15 a.m. The blast occurred at the Bonchon Chicken restaurant in Barangay Dampas. Notably, the restaurant was set to open later that day, and the explosion happened just days before its grand opening.

The explosion caused significant damage to the commercial building housing the restaurant, scattering glass shards and rubble across the area. It also triggered a total power outage that affected a large portion of Tagbilaran City, from Barangay Dampas to the City Hall and Capitol Valley areas. The blackout lasted for nearly an hour until power was restored around 3:10 a.m.

The blast was forceful enough to be caught on video by nearby cameras, creating a scare among residents, but fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported. Authorities promptly started clearing operations and urged the public to avoid the vicinity while investigations were ongoing.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, although authorities reminded business owners and residents to regularly check for safe electrical connections and comply with fire safety regulations. This incident marks the third fire-related event reported in the Dampas area recently, increasing the urgency for adherence to safety protocols.

Local officials emphasized ensuring that all establishments have the proper permits and have taken necessary safety precautions to prevent similar incidents. Cleanup and investigation efforts are continuing to prevent future accidents and to hold accountable those responsible, if any negligence is found.
